Take 3 Fundraiser
Take 3 presents -Ocean Love' at Ben & Jerry's Openair Cinemas Bondi on February 6 a night of film, music, art and inspiration celebrating ocean conservation.
Former Beautiful Girls front man Mat McHugh will help spread -ocean love' with a live performance at a special fundraiser event at Ben & Jerry's Openair Cinemas Bondi on February 6th for non-profit organization -Take 3 A Clean Beach Initiative'.
As Australia endures a record-breaking heatwave our beaches and oceans are paying the price with rubbish strewn across beaches from Bondi to Broome. Take 3 offers a simple solution to the growing problem of plastic pollution by asking people to -take three pieces of rubbish from the beach when they leave'. Mat McHugh said 'as a surfer I see the impacts of plastic pollution firsthand and I'm stoked to be involved with this event to help Take 3 increase their efforts.' Mat McHugh's new album, -Love Come Save Me' is available for free download at www.matmchughmusic.com.
The UN Environmental Program estimates 6.4 million tonnes of rubbish enter the world's oceans every year. It reports that more than 13,000 pieces of plastic litter are floating on every square kilometre of ocean surface. 'Taking 3 is a simple action that everyone can do to help combat this growing problem that kills millions of innocent sea creatures every year.' Tim Silverwood, co-founder of Take 3 said.
Mat McHugh and the Seperatista Soundsystem will kick off the evening followed by a screening of the award-winning film: -Minds in the Water' about professional surfer and environmentalist Dave -Rasta' Rastovich and his efforts to protect oceans and the whales and dolphins that call it home. This will be followed by a bonus screening of the surf film -Here & Now' by Taylor Steele and featuring Kelly Slater, Stephanie Gilmore, Rasta and Rob Machado. Local environmental organisations including Sea Shepherd, Surfers for Cetaceans, Responsible Runners, Circular Economy Australia and the Bondi Marine Discovery Centre will be present to help educate about local conservation efforts.
There will be a bumper raffle on the night including signed photographs of Rasta, autographed Taylor Steele surf films, signed copies of Mat McHugh's new album, 'Love Come Save Me' and sustainable products including wooden surf craft and sunglasses.
Take 3 is a not-for-profit organisation formed in 2009 whose aim is to inspire Australians to take personal responsibility for plastic waste on our beaches. It has a two-fold approach: help to reduce the amount of waste entering our oceans; and in doing so, raise awareness of the damage that marine debris does to the environment. The Bondi film festival is the third leg of the Ben & Jerry's Openair Cinemas program, which features live music and feature films at Bondi, overlooking Australia's most iconic beach. With a wide selection of feature films ranging from blockbusters to cult favourites, cinema goers can chill out before their movie with some tasty food and frosty beverages from the fully licensed bar, while relaxing to sounds from some of the best up and coming talents from the Australian music scene. Ben & Jerry's Openair Cinemas is proud to be part of the -Ocean Love' night presented by Take 3.
