A DAY IN BONDI WITH FELICITY PALMATEER
HERE'S WHAT A DAY IN BONDI WITH FLICK LOOKS LIKE
FROM SUNRISE TO SUNDOWN WHAT’S YOUR BEST DAY IN BONDI LOOK LIKE?
I wake up and start with a pre-sunrise coffee, then I head out into the surf if it’s good, most
of my friends surf so it’s pretty social. the sunrise in Bondi is often pretty special because
it rises over the ocean ... There’s usually dolphins around Bondi, or whales, depending on
the season, so you might find yourself sharing the start of the day with some of those creatures
If there’s no surf, I’ll do the coastal walk from Bondi to Bronte and Clovelly. It’s one of the
best ways to see the coastline, there’s hills and stairs - it’s a great way to keep fit and the
path runs right along the cliffs overlooking the ocean and beaches.
WHERE TO EAT, WHERE TO SURF AND SOME HIDDEN GEMS OFF THE BEATEN PATH.
I love healthy food with all natural/organic ingredients and Bondi is great for that - there’s
heaps of options. I go to the Health Emporium on Bondi Rd and I’ll usually grab a smoothie
or juice of some kind. Bondi is multicultural so you can basically pick what style of food
you like, but for dinner a favourite haunt of mine is Bondi’s Best. They specialise in seafood
- but all of their fare is sustainable which to me is vitally important! Their hot chips
are also maybe the best-ever
there’s not a lot of hidden gems in Bondi! It’s the closest beach to Australia’s largest city,
Sydney. but I can recommend the ocean baths, man altered pools and swimming areas
located on just about every Sydney beach. The Icebergs is the famous pool at the southern
end of Bondi you see in a lot of photos. The restaurant overlooking the pool is also a great
spot for a sunset drink ...
TELL US ABOUT THE MURALS YOU PAINTED IN BONDI...
I’m an ambassador for the MSC, the Marine Stewardship Council,
and they’re the global governing body for sustainable seafood.
As a surfer I feel intrinsically linked to the ocean and feel a
responsibility to protecting it. So as a way of helping to raise awareness
for World Ocean’s Day (June 8th) I combined two of my passions - art
and conservation - and painted a mural on the promenade at Bondi.
It’s the second mural I’ve completed down at Bondi, literally thousands
of people pass by there everyday, and my art has stood for months at a
time. So it’s a real honor.
