Billabong Parko Grom Stomp Champions Crowned

Sunshine Coast, Queensland Sunday 6th August, 2015 – The fourth and final day of the Billabong Parko Grom Stomp presented by Flight Centre saw no shortage of jam packed action from the future stars of surfing compete in pristine surf conditions with excitement continuing to grow as the fields narrowed across all divisions and the finals were set.

The 12 and under divisions were first to kick things off with both Zahli Kelly (Wooloowin, QLD) and Lennox Chell (Avoca Beach, QLD) showcasing outstanding performances taking home overall first place in each of their divisions.

In addition to her first place finish in the 12 and under girls division, Zahli also took out the 14 and under girls division to best Piper Harrison (Coolangatta, QLD), Kelly Pocock (Coolum Beach, QLD) and Emily Lethbridge (Noosaville, QLD) respectively.

Closely followed by the 12 and under girls final, the stacked 14 and under boys final saw who some have regarded as the most consistent performer for the event, Dakoda Walters (Angourie, NSW) post the highest single wave score of the event on his first wave in the 14 boys final, a near perfect 9.93 (out of a possible 10). Walters backed his near perfect ride with another excellent scoring ride (8.87 out of 10) to reign supreme over Alister Reginato (Alexandra Headland,QLD), Kian Martin (Denpasar, Indonesia) and Connor Lee (Redhead, NSW) finishing respectively.

The final of the blue ribbon 16 and under boys division saw four of the best 16 year old surfers in Australia battle it out for the coveted title. In the end it was none other that Reef Heazlewood (Moffat Beach, QLD) defending his title over Luke Glover (Caloundra, QLD), Noah Kearney (Shelly Beach, QLD) and Liam O’Brien (Burleigh Heads, QLD), winning his second consecutive Billabong Parko Grom Stomp event.

As added value to todays finals program, Joel Parkinson joined fellow Parko Grom Stomp competitors in the Flight Centre Stomp of the session. Loads of prizes were up for grabs for those who could perform the best aerial maneuver deemed by the judges. In the end it was Tane Bowden (Jan Juc, VIC) who stole the show taking out the Flight Centre Stomp of the session with his progressive style and aerial acrobatics.

The Billabong Parko Grom Stomp presented by Flight Centre is the first of its kind in Australia alongside Taj’s Small fries (Yallingup, WA), Oz Grom Cup (Coffs Harbour) and the Occy’s Grom Comp (Gold Coast, QLD). The event attracts grommets from all over the nation in hope of the youngsters having their name etched to the famed perpetual trophy as well as sights of a bright future to becoming a surfing professional.

Taj, Joel and Occy will choose one lucky grom from each event to partake in a ‘money can’t buy’ experience, a Surfing World photo-shoot adding kudos amongst competitors competing in these events.
