In 2010 I was very grateful to receive $500 from the AMASDF. In March of 2011 I came first in the US REV Tour at Mt Snow, in Vermont, in Slopestyle. It had been a challenging year for me coming back from serious injury and I was very pleased to win this event and qualify for the Australian team for the Junior World Championships in Valmalenco in Italy in March/April 2011. I had to find my airfare to Italy and the $1000 SSA cost to be on the team. The AMASDF grant met half of that cost and made it so much easier for me to attend. The experience in Italy was fantastic especially being there with the Australian team. I qualified in 4th place into the finals out of a field of 40.
Unfortunately I crashed in the finals and I ended up in 11th. However it was a good result given that it was only 12 months since I had broken my back.
My results have now seen me named on the SSA National Snowboard Team. This means that I am now eligible to compete at the World Cup. Currently Slopestyle is in the World Cup but not yet in the Olympics; although it is anticipated that it will be included in the 2014 Games.
I am at home now resting, dryland training and doing some part time work. I plan to continue as per my scholarship application and make a return to competition with the NZ Burton Open and the NZ Winter Games August 2011.
Thank you so much for your support, it has definitely helped me reach my goals. I look forward to promoting the foundation in any way that I am able.
