Champions Crowned for the 11th annual Occy’s Grom Comp
Surfing legend Mark “Occy” Occhilupo has had a life-long affinity with the ocean, making a career of whatever has been thrown his way, but today the sporting legend kept his feet dry, instead keeping an eye over dozens of young grommets who took to the water for the finals day of the contest held in his legacy.

The blue ribbon 16 and under boys saw a thickened Duranbah beach applaud for the final that scored one of the highest heat totals between two competitors of the event. In a tactical battle, it was Quinn Bruce (Coolangatta, QLD) who proved his strategy with utilising priority in the final minutes would set an advantage and see him through to victory against Luke Wrice (Coledale, NSW) for the 11th annual Billabong OccyΓÇÖs Grom comp, Presented by Breaka.
From the 16 and under girls it was Holly Coffey (Coolangatta, QLD) and Billie Mellinz (Coalcliff, NSW) finishing in respective positions.

From the 14 and under boys it was Caleb Tancred (Avoca Beach, QLD) and Dakoda Walters (Angourie, NSW) who made the coveted final with Caleb taking the acclaimed first place.
In addition to the excitement generated from the finals of the Billabong OccyΓÇÖs Grom comp, Presented by Breaka, the 16 and under boys put on 25 minutes of entertaining aerial manoeuvre as the finals commenced for the Kustom Mini Air Strike.
Spectators arrived thick and fast lining DuranbahΓÇÖs southern rock wall to witness the highly respected competition.
In the end, it was Harley Ross-Webster scoring an 8.33 (out of a possible 10) which was enough for him to take out the $1000 prize purse as well as etching his name alongside world tour surfers such as John John Florence and Chippa Wilson who have also competed in the well known event.
