• From the Gold Coast With Love

The inaugural Heartwave Beach Walk took place 12th February 2011 at Currumbin Beach on the Gold Coast and brought together around 500 people to create a visual symbol of love and support for all those affected by the catastrophic QLD floods and cyclone Yasi.

The event raised just over $5,500 in an hour and a half for the QLD Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal, and connected the Gold Coast community with 36 guests from one of the State's hardest hit regions, Grantham in the Lockyer Valley. Event sponsors Kelloggs shuttled the Grantham group to the event in a private bus so they could witness firsthand the outpouring of support and goodwill from their fellow Queenslanders. The hour-long charity walk attracted sporting heroes like surfers Joel Parkinson and Wayne Rabbit Bartholomew, ironmen Zane Holmes and Ky Hurst, and ironwoman Hayley Bateup, and at the walk's conclusion the crowd amassed into a giant heart formation which was aerially shot by attending media and broadcast around the country. The message...Queensland, You Are In Our Hearts.

The Grantham group then enjoyed the rest of their day being treated to lunch at the Currumbin SLSC, a swim with their own personal ironman supervisor Zane Holmes, and a private tour of Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary before being presented with gift bags from Billabong, Havaianas and Happy Days diaries. A special thankyou to all those who participated and most importantly donated to the HEARTWAVE BEACH WALK, you made the magic happen! So generous! Thankyou to Glen Rocky Rawlings and Rabbit Bartholomew for your inspiring commentary, to the amazing army of volunteers, to the media who helped us share our message, and of course our supporters: GCCC, Billabong, Kelloggs, Havaianas, Currumbin SLSC, SAND, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, Fastproof Press, Stryker Media, Surfing Queensland, Unilever, Cool Ridge Water, Hogarth Studio, Happy Days Diaries and Soul Arch Media.
