Incredible Performances for the Billabong Oz Grom Cup!
The Billabong OZ Grom Cup in Coffs Harbour has seen some incredible performances over the first 2 days of competition and the future of Australian surfing is in extremely bright hands with these grommets.
Day one saw the younger divisions go to work in 2-3 ft super fun conditions and Central Coast powerhouse Nate Hopkins was the stand out performer who displayed maturity well beyond his years in the Under 12 Boys Division and Zahli Kelly from Queensland continued to show the crowd on the beach why she is ear marked as a future star of women's surfing locking in a perfect 10 point ride in her opening round of the U/14 Girls division.
Day two saw a huge, clean ground swell at Park Beach and it was the U/18 Boys, U/16 Boys & U/18 Girls that arguably put on one of the finest displays in Junior surfing history on a classic North Coast beach break locking in over five perfect ten point rides by end of days competition.
Macy Callaghan in the U/18 Girls put on a flawless display with a perfect heat score of 20.0 with two perfect ten point rides. She won the stand out performer of the day and has one healthy future and will not be long before we see her name on the Women's World Surf League Tour.
The boys divisions put on performance after performance with countless eight and nine point rides which made it very hard to highlight a standout as they all rose from boys to men today in the solid surf. However, Under-16 Boys surfer Noah Stocca was awarded a perfect ten point ride , which was incredible and if there was a possibility to score the ride any higher it would have been awarded unanimously by the judging panel.
The forecast for the Billabong OZ Grom Cup forecast continues to look incredible for the next four days and we will continue to see incredible performances by the stars of Australian Junior surfing.
