Jack Freestone Wins Azores Pro!
The best surfers in the world were on hand all week for the 2015 Azores Pro in Portugal. Jack Freestone was in form the whole event and went up against huge names during the whole competition including World Tour surfer Miguel Pupo in the semifinals. He was able to beat Miguel with lightning fast precision and progressive surfing that had the judges awarding him with high scores. In the final Jack would face ex-World Tour surfer Dion Atkinson, a fellow Australian with veteran experience in a jersey. At the beginning of the heat both surfers started with scores in the good-excellent range. It was then up to Jack to find a back up score, and he did with a backside attack that earned him an 8.33. Dion was then left to find a score, but a wave never came to give him the opportunity.
Once the horn sounded, Jack was elated with excitement on his first Prime QS win and the knowledge that he'd just moved up in the qualifying rankings from 13th into the top 5 with 10,000 points to walk away with. Jack was chaired up the beach by his friends and will undoubtedly be celebrating his big win momentarily before he gets ready for the Cascais Pro in the next few days. Congrats to Jack on the huge win, and we look forward to seeing him qualify for the World Tour by the end of this year! #WeBackJack
