Perfect conditions for day 4 of the Billabong Occy’s Grom Comp.
Duranbah unexpectedly turned on its trademark A-Frame barrels for day four of the Billabong Occy’s Grom comp, Presented by Breaka. Competitors were presented with multiple options on where they would instigate their heats from the southern wall of Duranbah offering long drawn out right hand waves to perfect A-Frame peaks out front of the event structure.
With the 2014 Billabong Occy’s Grom comp, Presented by Breaka now over the halfway mark, the 16 and under boys today had the opportunity on opening their accounts in a bid to progress through to round two which will commence tomorrow.
In an exciting opening round heat, it was Quinn Bruce (Coolangatta, QLD) from the 16 and under boys who posted the events first perfect 10 point ride. Bruce successfully completed 3 significant turns, each as critical as the last, giving judges no option but to give the tick of approval. Backed up with an excellent 8 point ride (Out of a possible 10), Bruce evidently secured his spot in round two.
Also moving through to round two are surfers Kai Warner (Narrabeen, NSW), Harley Ross-Webster (North Curl Curl) and Japanese surfer Noro Kairi (Osaka, Japan) all displaying flawless round house cuttyΓÇÖs, etching their names in tomorrowΓÇÖs round two draw.
However it was international sensation Noro Kairi who got the better of the exchange with more fast, critical and consecutive turns posting a two wave total of 18.83 (out of a possible 20) making his combined score the highest heat total for the event.
