Pumping Surf at Duranbah for the Occy’s Grom Comp!
Day 2 of the Billabong Occy’s Grom Comp, Presented by Breaka was welcomed with pristine 3ft, offshore conditions making for an eventful day of surfing competition.
The 14 and under boys saw an array of stand-out performances with grommets displaying their skilful versatility of aerial manoeuvres, power turns and barrel riding. With the 14 and under division advancing through to the second round, there are still 28 surfers still in contention for the prestigious title.
Recently returning from California and Indonesia in preparation leading up to this event, Kyuss King (Byron Bay, NSW) proved his time spent away from home in differential waves payed off. King finished his round one heat in first place with a heat total of 9.73 (Out of a possible 20) relegating him straight through to round 2.
The Dobbyn family also shared their luck in the stella conditions with both Kai Dobbyn (Gold Coast, QLD) and Kiani Dobbyn (Gold Coast, QLD) advancing through to round two in their respective divisions.
Running in conjunction with the 16 and under boys final will be the Kustom Mini Strike which will see stakes within the blue ribbon final skyrocket as competitors turn to major aerial manoeuvres for their chance at cracking the $1000 winner takes all prize purse.
